Topography-guided customized ablation treatment (TCAT) and wavefront-optimized (WFO) ablations provide similar outcomes after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for myopia and myopic astigmatism correction, according to a study published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery.
In this study, 23 patients who underwent PRK with WFO ablation in one eye and TCAT in the other eye were followed for 12 months.
No significant difference in the manifest refraction spherical equivalent, sphere, or cylinder variables between the WFO ablation or TCAT was found 12 months after surgery. At 12 months postoperatively, in both groups 96% of eyes achieved an uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better.
Safety and efficacy were similar between the groups.
