Year over year ophthalmology coding changes were recently noted by Suzanne L. Corcoran, vice president of Corcoran Consulting Group. 

Among the largest percentage changes for diagnostic tests in 2016 vs 2015:

  • Immunoassay test (83516): +118%
  • Ultrasonic biomicrospcopy (76513): +79%
  • Corneal pachymetry (76514): +70%
  • Allergy testing (92165): -39%
  • Nursing home visit (99305): -35%
  • Nursing home visit (99308): -33%

 

For surgical procedures:

  • iStent (0191T): +47%
  • Temporary amniotic membrane (65778): +44%
  • Intravitreal injection (67028): +9%
  • Paracentesis (65800): -26%
  • Subconjunctival injection (68200): -46%

 

For ophthalmic supplies, including injectable medications:

  • AbobotulinumtoxinA (J0586): +42%
  • IncobotulinumtoxinA (Jo588): +25%
  • Aflibercept (J0178): +22%
  • Dexamethasone (J7321): +22%
  • Triamcinolone (J3301): +15%
  • Ranibizumab (j3590): -7%
