Dr. Deegan graduated with honors from Tufts University with degrees in English and biology. He continued at Tufts University School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine. His post-doctoral training includes an internship in the Department of Medicine at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, a residency in ophthalmology at New England Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, and two fellowships: one in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Washington Hospital Center and another in ocular oncology and pediatric retinal diseases and surgery at Doheny Eye Institute and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, major affiliates of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Dr. Deegan is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has licenses in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Hospitals where he has appointments include Children’s National Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Virginia Hospital Center, and Sibley Memorial Hospital. Dr. Deegan is a member of seven professional societies and organizations. He has been honored for community service and teaching and has contributed to twenty publications, course and major presentations, and research studies.
