Monitoring Keratoconus Progression with Belin ABCD Staging
Data from a retrospective review of 104 patients with kertoconus who underwent cross-linking from January 2016 to June 2019 found that the Belin ABCD staging classification may be useful in monitoring disease progression in this patient population, according to a presentation by Neil Vadhar, MD at the Wills Eye Conference.
Patients in the study were evaluated using the ABCD staging system prior to surgery and at 3 and 6 months after surgery.
The Belin ABCD staging classification is beneficial because it is centered on the thinnest point and incorporates anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea to better reflect the changes seen in keratoconus, said Dr Vadhar.
