Change Things Up During Interviews

Posted on

Are you in a rut when it comes to hiring good people for your practice? Try changing things up, suggests Shoshana Nyquist, MD, a private practitioner from Sewell, NJ. Here are a few tips:

  • Interview candidates in a group setting with key member of your team present. You staff will appreciate that you value their input, and you will gain from insights that you may not have from your vantage point.

  • Try interviewing outside the office to see how candidates act in nontraditional settings.

  • Ask the same question several ways to make sure the candidate answers consistently.

  • Scare with sincerity. “Say something like, ‘I appreciate you going through this, and I think you could add value to our team, but I want you to know that we are very intentional about building a practice that is hard-working and caring. If being aware of others’ feelings or being challenged to learn and do more bothers you, you’re not going to like it here, and it will be painful for you and for us. But if being with others who are grateful, passionate and kind is for you, I can see this being an amazing partnership.’”
