High-dose Cyclosporine in Chondroitin Sulfate Improves Dry Eye Symptoms

Posted on

Higher-dose (0.1%) topical cyclosporine in chondroitin sulfate improved dry eye symptoms in patients, according to study data presented at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Virtual Annual Meeting.

In this retrospective, multicenter study, the mean Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score of 33 patients (66 eyes) treated with cyclosporine 0.1% drops improved from 39.99 at baseline to 20.58 at 3 months. At the end of the follow-up period, patients classified as having “severe” disease decreased from 63.6% to 12.1% and one-third of eyes were classified as “normal.”

In addition, eyes with Grade 2 or 3 staining decreased from 16% at baseline to 9%.

The authors noted, that an additional analysis of approximately 20 subjects is planned.
