Effect of Cycloplegia in Pediatric Amblyopia Evaluated

Posted on

Non-cycloplegic autorefraction measurements appear to safely refine astigmatism power and axis in pediatric patients with amblyopia, according to a prospective comparative study involving children between 4 and 17 years of age.

Participants were from the Arkansas Children’s Hospital eye clinic either with or without amblyopia. Investigators further divided patients into myopia and hyperopia categories. They then measured refractive error before and after cycloplegia. They found no statistically significant difference on the axis and power of astigmatism before and after cycloplegia in the patients with amblyopia.
