The Future of Glaucoma Medication Delivery
Glaucoma medication adherence remains a challenge for many patients and clinicians. James D. Brandt, MD, director of glaucoma service at Tschannen Eye Institute at the University of California, Davis, recently commented on the fact that despite the availability of excellent treatments for glaucoma, compliance hovers at around 50%.
He went on the describe potential new drug delivery systems, including sustained-release medications, which, he said, removes patient actions from the equation. Patients do not have to remember to take their medication three times daily when drugs are delivered on a sustained basis for weeks to months. Dr Brandt reviewed some to the products that are in development.
