Hydrus microstent reduces IOP, medication burden

The Hydrus microstent (Ivantis) combined with clear lensectomy reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) and restores aqueous outflow, according to data presented at the 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting.

In this retrospective study, data from 186 eyes (baseline pre-operative vision better than 20/40) that underwent clear lensectomy combined with Hydrus stent implantation, were included. Six-month follow-up data was available for 105 eyes.

At baseline, for all study eyes, the average IOP was 14.67 ± 4.57 mmHg, the mean number of medications was 2.53 ± 1.47, and the average baseline visual field mean deviation was -8.36 dB.

For the 105 eyes who had 6 months follow-up, there was a reduction in mean IOP to 13.36 ± 2.92 mmHg. Mean medication count also decreased to 0.45 ±1.07.

Following the procedure, the proportion of patients not on any medications increased from 0% to 81%. The visual field improved from a mean of -8.37 dB to a mean of -8.17dB.
