Ocular Bandage Gel Results Reported

Posted on

Results from the first in human study involving the Ocular Bandage Gel (OBG) hyaluronic acid were recently reported in a study involving 39 individuals. Participants who received bilateral PRK were treated with either OBG 4 times a day either alone or with a bandage contact lens (BCL); or with a BCL and artificial tears. Investigators followed their progress for 28 days. 10 of 12 patients (83%) who received OBG alone experienced a closed wound at day 3, vs 9 of 14 (64%) and 7 of 13 (54%) in the other 2 groups, respectively.

Based on these data, EyeGate, OBG’s maker, is proceeding with clinical studies involving patients with large epithelial defects created during PRK, as well as those with small micro-abrasions or punctate epitheliopathies.
