Google Analytics Best Practices and Pitfalls

Posted on

An expert reviewed important considerations to keep in mind when using Google Analytics to track marketing results during the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s 2018 annual meeting in Washington, DC. Devin Butler, vice president of product management and director of SEO for Ceatus Media Group in San Diego, reviewed the 4 main types of Google Analytics tracking: Destination, duration, pages/visit, and events. He noted that it is essential to:

  • Identify what you want to track.
  • Have a specific page in place to capture visits (a contact page).
  • Know how long someone was on your website.
  • Know how many pages they experienced.

Butler went on to show how to set up and track marketing campaigns—specifically, the best practices to consider, and pitfalls to avoid.
