What screening method do you believe to be the most efficient for ocular diseases?
In The Lancet Global Health, Hanruo Liu et al analyzed 3 methods (non-telemedicine screening, telemedicine screening with no artificial intelligence, and telemedicine screening with artificial intelligence) for screening age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and cataract.
The authors concluded that artificial intelligence telemedicine screening was the best screening intervention for both rural and urban settings, although they noted that “defining the intended use environment is crucial and should be customized to each country and tailored to each city or town when possible.”
