Refractive Surgery/Vision Correction

SMILE’s Advantages Over Femtosecond LASIK

Posted on

The SMILE procedure’s advantages over femtosecond LASIK were recently explained by Rupal Shah, MD, of the New Vision Laser Centers, Vadodara, India, in a recent article. The benefits include:

  • Only 1 laser required.
  • Improved workflow, since the patient does not have to move from one laser to another.
  • Use less total energy.
  • There is less scatter in the results, since SMILE involves cutting and not ablation.
  • A small incision means better biomechanical stability and fewer dry eye symptoms after surgery.
