Refractive Surgery/Vision Correction

Topography-Guided LASIK Assessed

Posted on

In patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism, topography-guided LASIK significantly increased the number of eyes that achieved 20/10 visual acuity between three and 12 months, according to a recent study.

Investigators looked at outcomes using the Contoura excimer laser. Among the results:

  • 20/10 corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was found in 1% of patients before surgery.
  • 20/10 or better uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was found in 7% of eyes at three months and 16% at 1 year.
  • Patients with lower preoperative corneal astigmatism tended to fare best.
