Morgan Micheletti, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist, renowned for his expertise in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and complex anterior segment surgery. His exceptional skills and innovative approaches have earned him prestigious recognitions, including being named to the Best Cataract Surgeons in America list, recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, and receiving the award for Incredible Innovation and Scientific Contribution from Real World Ophthalmology. Dr. Micheletti was also recently named to the top 40 under 40 list of ophthalmologists in the United States.

Dr. Micheletti’s academic journey began at The University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology, achieving High Honors and Special Honors in Biology. As an honors scholar, he earned multiple endowed presidential scholarships and was a University of Texas Distinguished College Scholar. His early academic prowess was further highlighted by his selection as an inaugural member of the Freshman Research Initiative, contributing to multiple publications in the field of RNA aptamers and DNA pools.

He continued his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he not only excelled academically but also demonstrated leadership as the president of the BCM Ophthalmology Interest Group. His commitment to his peers was evident through his roles as an elected class officer and a representative on the Medical Student Council.

Dr. Micheletti’s medical training culminated with a transitional internship at Emory University School of Medicine, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Emory Eye Center. During his residency, he published multiple peer-reviewed articles and served as an Advocacy Ambassador with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, working with leaders at local, state, and national levels to enhance eye care across the nation.

At Berkeley Eye Center, Dr. Micheletti’s interests span advanced cataract surgery, surgical correction of presbyopia using the latest technology, cutting-edge refractive surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, management of dislocated IOLs, and complex anterior segment surgery. As the Director of Research and the Director of the Fellowship Program, he is deeply involved in numerous industry-sponsored clinical trials (FDA studies) and Investigator Initiated Trials and Studies and has published numerous peer-reviewed research.

Dr. Micheletti is an innovator and inventor, having created multiple surgical instruments with three patent-pending devices and surgical techniques. His notable contributions include the development of the “punch and rescue” technique for dislocated IOLs and the modified twist and out technique for IOL exchange, both recently published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His commitment to the field is further demonstrated through his service on the AAO ONE Network Cataract Committee, the Young Eye Surgeons committee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Health Policy Committee for the Society for Excellence in Eyecare, and as a member of the board of directors for the Society for Excellence in Eyecare. Additionally, he is an active member and serves as the chair of the Research Committee for the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS), the Texas Ophthalmological Association, and the Houston Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Micheletti is also the host of “The History of Eyecare,” a podcast series that delves into the evolution and advancements in the field of eyecare.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Micheletti cherishes spending time with his wife and three children. His personal interests include woodworking, snowboarding, and golf, reflecting his well-rounded personality and dedication to both his profession and family.
