Jay Pepose
MD, PhD
As the Chief Medical Advisor at Opus Genetics, I bring over 25 years of leadership and deep expertise in ophthalmology, coupled with a robust track record in pharmaceutical R&D and clinical innovation. With a unique blend of clinical, entrepreneurial, and industry experience, I am adept at navigating complex healthcare landscapes and driving strategic initiatives that bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and patient-centered care.
I am the founder and former leader of the Pepose Vision Institute, a premier multi-specialty practice renowned for excellence in eye care. My leadership extends beyond clinical practice—having served as Director of a publicly traded pharmaceutical company and a trusted consultant to ophthalmic strategics and startups, where I’ve guided product development and strategic decisions to accelerate growth and market success. These experiences position me as a key advisor and thought leader in ophthalmology and healthcare innovation.
In addition to my industry experience, I have held the position of Bernard Becker Professor of Ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine, where I directed the Corneal, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery division. My passion for advancing ophthalmology through education, research, and clinical practice has earned me recognition as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and numerous prestigious awards, including the Cogan Award from ARVO, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Gold Fellow of ARVO.
Holding both Board-Certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and Directorship Certification from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), I bring a unique blend of scientific rigor, business insight, and governance experience to healthcare and life science Boards. With a passion for fostering innovation, improving patient outcomes, and mentoring the next generation of leaders in ophthalmology, I am committed to shaping the future of healthcare through executive leadership, strategic guidance, and operational excellence.
