John Livecchi

MD

John T. LiVecchi, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeon, sub-specializing in eyelid and facial cosmetic surgery and is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr LiVecchi is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, and the Division Chief of Oculoplastics at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. LiVecchi completed his undergraduate work at CUNY at Richmond College with a major in biology. As a dual citizen, Dr. LiVecchi earned his medical degree from the University of Rome and completed his ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he served his chief resident as well. He subsequently completed a fellowship in   Oculoplastic surgery at the world renowned Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.  Previously, Dr. LïVecchi was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida.

Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty of ophthalmology and deals with the skin, muscles, glands and bones that’s surround, support and aid in the proper function of the eye. It involves reconstructive surgery as well as cosmetic surgery.

Dr. LiVecchi has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Lions Institute for Transplant & Research (LEITR) in Tampa Florida for two consecutive terms. In the 47-year history of LEITR, Dr. LiVecchi was the first physician to be elected to this post. LEITR is a 501(c)(3) multimillion-dollar corporation and one of the world’s largest eye banks, and in 82 countries at that time with a state-of-the-art research component on board.  He served as vice chairman of the board for two previous years and was also the inaugural chair of the visionary committee.

Dr. LiVecchi regularly makes scientific presentations, exhibits his work at academic meetings, and has published numerous articles. He is a contributing author to several texts on Ophthalmology. He was the chief editor of Oculoplastic pearls for the Ophthalmology Times and is on their editorial advisory board. He was also on the editorial board of the Annals of Ophthalmology. Dr. LiVecchi is one of the most experienced oculoplastic surgeons in the USA and has performed over 31,000 procedures thus far. He has been selected as one of America’s top ophthalmologists/oculoplastic surgeons 10 years in a row by the consumers research council of America. He has traveled worldwide as a course director, teaching state-of-the-art surgery to other eye doctors and refractive and plastic surgeons. He was a medical director of three medical companies and sat on several board as an officer and director prior to joining the medical faculty in the Department of ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville

Dr. LiVecchi was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He practiced Ophthalmology/oculoplastics in Pennsylvania for over 20 years. He was also a high-ranking officer in the United States Army Reserve. Dr. LiVecchi ‘s hobbies include tennis, golf, winemaking, travel, theater, fine dining, and sporting events.  Dr. LiVecchi’s Passions, other than God and family are science, medicine and patient care.
