Comparative study: Ophthalmic solutions show promise in alleviating dry eye in college-age group

Posted on

In a comprehensive study comparing different ophthalmic solutions for treating moderate-to-severe dry eye disease in college students, 0.15% hyaluronic acid (HA) solution demonstrated significant improvement in corneal staining scores and other indicators.

The study investigated the therapeutic potential of 0.15% HA, 0.05% cyclosporine A (CsA), and 3% diquafosol sodium (DQS) ophthalmic solutions.

Results from the analysis indicated that all treatment groups, exhibited significant improvement in corneal staining scores compared to baseline. Similarly, there were improvements observed in the ocular surface disease index score, Schirmer test, tear meniscus height, and tear film breakup time in all groups. However, the differences between the groups were not statistically significant.

The study also found a significant reduction in inflammatory factors across all treatment groups. The 0.05% CsA group demonstrated a trend of superior improvement at the 12-week mark compared to the 0.15% HA group. No serious adverse reactions were observed during the study.
