TECNIS PureSee IOL induces quality vision, contrast, and uncorrected vision
Eric Donnenfeld, MD, OCLI Vision, spoke with Ophthalmology 360 at the 2026 ASCRS Annual Meeting about the TECNIS PureSee IOL and how it offers extended depth of focus without reduced contrast or glare and halos.
Eric Donnenfeld, MD:
Hi, my name is Eric Donnenfeld. I’m here at ASCRS. I’m a clinical professor of ophthalmology at NYU, and I’m a managing partner of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island.
I’ve just presented a paper on the quality of vision with a novel new extended depth of focus lens, the PureSee lens. These are the results of the FDA trial here in the United States. What this lens is special for, it’s the first and only refractive extended depth of focus lens that actually not only has the same vision as a monofocal control, but also has the same contrast sensitivity and the same dysphotopsia such as glare and halo. For the first time, we can offer patients a lens that gives them an extended depth of focus with a significant amount of additional reading without the fear that they will lose contrast or that they will have more glare and halo.
I believe this lens will be a wonderful lens for patients who want to have great distance, great intermediate, and even some reading, and will change the way we look at refractive cataract surgery. I predict that this lens will be the refractive IOL for non-refractive surgeons. The results of the study really speak to themselves. Again, great quality of vision, great contrast, and great uncorrected vision. Thank you very much.
