Real-world study offers early insights into aflibercept 8 mg for DME
Early real-world data from the global SPECTRUM study presented at AAO 2025 show that aflibercept 8 mg is being successfully administered to both treatment-naïve (TN) and previously treated (PT) patients with diabetic macular edema (DME).
The 24-month observational study is tracking adults with both TN and PT DME across 12 countries.
So far, 283 TN and 470 PT patients have been enrolled, with treatment durations reaching up to 14 months. Among the initial 150 participants, the average age was 66 years, and most were male. The TN cohort had been diagnosed with DME for an average of 2.2 months, while the PT group had a longer disease history of 55 months, with two-thirds previously treated with aflibercept 2 mg.
Baseline visual acuity averaged 63.5 letters in TN patients and 70.2 letters in PT patients, while central retinal thickness measured 420 µm and 364 µm, respectively. Researchers note that these early findings provide valuable insights into the characteristics and treatment response of DME patients in a global real-world setting.
