CAM360 AmnioGraft offers earlier intervention option for dry eye disease
Tom Williamson, Chief Commercial Officer at BioTissue, spoke with Ophthalmology 360 at AAO 2025 about the CAM360 AmnioGraft, which offers an earlier-intervention option for patients with dry eye disease and neurotrophic keratitis.
Question:
It has been 1 year since CAM360 AmnioGraft was unveiled. Can you provide a refresher on CAM360 AG?
Tom Williamson:
Yes. CAM360 AmnioGraft is built off of our AmnioGraft product platform. It’s used to treat mild to moderate dry eye disease. It’s ringless, it’s hydrated, which is an important point, and orientation doesn’t matter, so it’s super easy to use, typically in conjunction with a collagen shield. It’s a really comfortable and elegant solution for those patients that have the less severe indications. Dry eye, as you guys know in neurotrophic keratitis is a progressive disease, and so CAM360 offers an excellent therapy to intervene earlier.
It provides a great solution for the patients that are looking for a jump start to their cornea. It allows their drops to be more of a maintenance therapy, instead of trying to heal the cornea. It’s a really nice concomitant therapy in the early mild- to moderate-stage dry eye in treating the nerve for neurotrophic keratitis.
Question:
How does this product impact the care providers can offer to patients with dry eye and other ocular surface conditions?
Tom Williamson:
Yes. CAM360 AmnioGraft has really exceeded our expectation. It’s expanded the patient population. Because of that early intervention folks are not having to wait until the end of the line where the disease progresses and becomes more severe and therefore harder to treat, CAM360 allows our providers to really pinpoint that mild to moderate disease before it exacerbates and gets too far down the line, and we’re seeing great results in as little as 48 hours where they’re getting full symptom relief. Again, it jump starts, resets the cornea.
Another great application that, again, it’s exceeding our expectation is in the pre-cataract surgery surface optimization. Physicians are able to really clean off the surface of the eye so they can get really pinpoint measurements that ultimately allows them to convert to a premium IOL, give a really much better patient experience. Anecdotally, and we’re looking into this a little bit more, but by the use of our product, the CAM360 in particular, to optimize the surface, we’re seeing physicians be able to compress the time to surgery.
Again, when we think about bringing new solutions to market, we think about the patient first, we think about the provider, and then we think about the practice and the practice economics and the flow, trying to make the practice a little bit more efficient. We really think that CAM360 has nailed that and the feedback has been tremendous. We get really good patient-reported outcomes. We’re getting really positive feedback throughout the ophthalmic community. We’re excited that the product has exceeded expectation. We think it’s going to be the new flagship or gold standard for mild to moderate dry eye.
It’s born out of the Prokera franchise, which we’re quite known for. That is now taking its seat in more of the severe disease state, and our goal as a company with BioTissue is to really meet the patient where they are in that entire continuum. As we’re looking for the next iteration of product and we’re continuing to innovate the CAM360 platform, we’re looking for something that can allow us to, again, meet each patient in that segment of dry eye.
Question:
Can you talk about the presentation on CAM360 at AAO 2025?
Tom Williamson:
Yeah. We’ve gotten some really good exciting podium presence with CAM360 AG and, again, the results speak for themselves. I was just in the Cornea Specialty Day and we had a physician presenting their application of CAM360, because it does offer a nice comfortable solution for that patient segment. Again, Prokera with the ring, it’s not for everybody, it’s extremely effective in that more severe disease state. To have something that’s got the same efficacy, the same time to treatment, again for the patient experience it’s only 24 to 48 hours of wear time to really get a nice durable result and a clean ocular surface. It’s something that we’re excited that organically our customers are coming to us with even more applications than we thought about, and they’re willing to talk about it from the podium. It’s a great win-win across the board.
When you think of dry eye disease, in particular neurotrophic keratitis, I want you to think of BioTissue first. We are really aiming to intervene early, to be a fast and functional treatment that can complement their entire therapy armamentarium of how they’re treating a multifactorial disease today. Just don’t forget that you’ve got a solution in your bag that can really help reset and jump start that cornea to make things work a lot easier and be comfortable for the patient and really great for your practice.
