Microsoft, Topcon announce partnership on AI-based eye scan

Kerri Fitzgerald
Microsoft

Microsoft and Topcon Healthcare Inc. (THI) have partnered on the “Healthcare from the Eye” initiative to offer an artificial intelligence (AI) screening system of the eye. The cloud-based system allows users of the Nuance Precision Imaging Network and the THI Harmony platform to screen for systemic and neurological diseases via a robotic, rapid, non-invasive eye scan.

“We are committed to making healthcare accessible and affordable through pre-screening using oculomics – leveraging the eye for insights into systemic and neurological health,” said Ali Tafreshi, CEO & President of Topcon Healthcare Inc. in a press release.

The 2-minute eye scan uses the company’s connected data management platform to identify patient risk for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease, and more, to lead to earlier diagnosis and more efficient treatment.

Topcon says the goal of the partnership is to empower patients to manage their health.
