Retinopathy of Prematurity

Non-contact widefield retinal imaging helps diagnosis, grading of ROP

Posted on

A non-contact wide field retinal imaging (NC-WFI) system that utilizes true color images can be used for more accurate diagnosis and severity grading in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), according to a study.

In this study, the vitreoretinal faculty of a tertiary eye care center examined all babies using the indirect ophthalmoscope after pupillary dilatation before ROP grading. A NC-WFI system (Clarus 700; Zeiss) was used to capture high-resolution true color reflectance imaging.

Of the 22 babies (44 eyes) included, 13 unique cases of ROP had images captured on the NC-WFI system.
