A session at 2018 Vision Expo East focused on the theories of refraction and how refracting procedures tie in with patients’ contact lens prescriptions. A panel led by S. Barry Eiden, OD, FAAO, president and medical director, North Suburban Vision Consultants in Chicago, began with a brief overview of the objective refraction process, comparing retinoscopy and vergences of the eye.

Attendees were able to compare refractive errors with vergences and relate this to the objective refractive process. They moved onto subjective refraction, looking at the concept of visual resolution and the order of cylinder refinement.
