Adherence to anti-VEGF treatment linked to better vision in nAMD
Consistent adherence to scheduled anti-VEGF treatment is crucial for preserving and improving vision in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), according to a study.
Researchers analyzed real-world data from patients aged 50 and older who began anti-VEGF therapy and completed 12 months of follow-up.
Among the 133 patient eyes studied, 129 were classified as adherent to treatment, while only 4 were non-adherent. Adherence was defined as having <20% of clinic visits delayed by 14 days or more. Patients who followed their injection schedule closely showed a mean visual acuity improvement of 6.3 letters after 1 year. In contrast, those who missed or delayed appointments experienced a decline of 11 letters.
