Study compares treatment effect on visual fields in eyes with retinopathy of prematurity
In patients with severe retinopathy of prematurity, intravitreal anti-VEGF injection only preserves significant peripheral vision compared with laser treatment, according to a presentation at the 2020 ASRS Virtual Meeting.
In this study, 6 eyes with retinopathy of prematurity were treated with laser and 12 eyes were treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF injection only. Standard automated perimetry was performed on all patients at 10 years old.
In both groups, regression of disease was seen after treatment. At 10 years old, patients in the laser-treated group had a significantly restricted visual field area compared to those in the anti-VEGF injection only treatment group.
