How LASIK Flap Thickness Compares with These Femtosecond Lasers
The Ziemer Femto LDV 24 (ZFL) laser appears to create a better LASIK flap than the Zeiss VisuMax Laser (ZVL), with a similarly low complication rate, according to a retrospective review involving 100 eyes of 57 individuals receiving LASIK. The findings were presented by James C. Lockwood, MD, of Emory University School of Medicine during the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s 2018 annual meeting in Washington, DC.
Participants underwent surgery between early 2015 and early 2017 and were followed for an average of 1 year. Investigators looked at how close each laser came to the intended 110 um flap thickness, as well as intraoperative and postoperative flap complications. Among the results:
- ZFL produced an average flap thickness of 111.96 um, vs 120.12 um with ZVL.
- Complication rates were similar.
