Three-decade analysis highlights key advances and challenges in CTX research
Despite the rarity and complexity of cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX), significant progress has been made in research over the past 3 decades, according to a study. However, improving the efficiency and accuracy of its diagnosis remains a critical challenge, and future research should focus on enhancing early diagnosis and intervention.
The study analyzed 561 publications over the past 30 years. Key findings show that the United States leads in the number of publications on CTX, with Karolinska Institutet identified as the top publishing institution and the Journal of Lipid Research as the most widely published and cited journal in the field.
The analysis revealed that “diagnosis” is the strongest emerging keyword, emphasizing the ongoing challenge in accurately diagnosing CTX. The study concludes that unraveling the pathogenesis of CTX and improving its diagnosis and treatment are critical areas that demand further research, with future efforts focusing on enhancing early diagnosis and intervention.
