Study highlights long-term efficacy of ABiC for IOP management after keratoplasty

Posted on

Ab-interno canaloplasty (ABiC) is an effective and safe long-term option for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) post-keratoplasty, with high rates of IOP control, preserved graft survival, and minimal complications over 3 years, according to a study.

A 3-year retrospective analysis evaluated IOP control, graft survival, and reliance on glaucoma medications in a cohort of 16 eyes, including those that had undergone penetrating keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty.

Key findings include a significant reduction in mean IOP from 25.8 mmHg preoperatively to 13.1 mmHg at 3 years, with 83.3% of patients achieving a ≥20% reduction in IOP. The mean number of glaucoma medications also decreased, though not significantly. Graft clarity was preserved in all but 1 case of late failure requiring additional intervention. Postoperative complications were minimal, with 2 cases of transient hyphema resolving without long-term effects.
