It may sometimes feel as if you are commoditizing your practice’s contact lens expertise, offering the same options to patients year after year. But it doesn’t have to be this way, said Jason R. Miller, OD, adjunct faculty member for The Ohio State University College of Optometry. The plethora of available disposable contact lens options allows you to dig into patients’ contact lens-wearing experience and personalize accordingly. Most patients will describe their wearing experience as “fine.” But don’t necessarily accept that answer. Ask probing questions such as “how do your contact lenses feel at the end of the day?” After listening to the patient’s answer, offer a customized disposable contact lens option. The bottom line: “Find a way to make every contact lens examination unique,” Dr Miller concluded.
