VISUMAX 800 lenticule extraction linked to high satisfaction and spectacle independence

Ophthalmology 360

Key Takeaways

  1. High satisfaction rates: Nearly all patients (98.7%) reported satisfaction with their results 6 months after lenticule extraction with the VISUMAX 800.
  2. Reduced dependence on corrective lenses: Most patients (93.8%) no longer required glasses or contact lenses for distance and near activities.
  3. Strong willingness to repeat and recommend: More than 98% of patients said they would choose the procedure again and recommend it to others.

Lenticule extraction with the VISUMAX 800 was associated with high patient satisfaction, substantial independence from corrective lenses, and few reports of severe visual disturbances, according to a study.

The prospective, non-randomized, multicenter international study enrolled patients with myopia up to -10.00 diopters and astigmatism up to 5.00 diopters who underwent bilateral lenticule extraction using the VISUMAX 800 laser. Patient-reported outcomes were assessed before surgery and at 6 months using a questionnaire adapted from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Patient-Reported Outcomes with LASIK instrument.

At 6 months, 98.7% of the 226 patients who completed follow-up reported being completely, very, or somewhat satisfied with their results, while 98.2% were satisfied with their visual recovery time. In addition, 93.8% reported no longer needing glasses or contact lenses for distance and near activities, while 80.5% reported little or no difficulty driving at night.

Overall, 99.1% of patients said they were happy they had undergone lenticule extraction with the VISUMAX 800, 98.2% said they would choose the procedure again, and 98.7% said they would recommend it to others. Overall, 98.2% of patients would choose the procedure again and 98.7% would recommend it to others. Only 4 patients (1.8%) said they would not repeat the procedure, and 3 (1.3%) said they would not recommend it.
