Zeiss MEL 90 excimer laser gains FDA approval

Kelsey Moroz

ZEISS Medical Technology announced that its MEL 90 excimer laser has received U.S. FDA approval for treating myopia, hyperopia, and mixed astigmatism. The MEL 90 integrates into a corneal refractive workflow, complementing the VISUMAX 800 with SMILE pro technology.

Equipped with the Advanced Ablation Algorithm (Triple-A), the laser supports a broad range of sphero-cylindrical corrections using a single ablation profile. It also delivers rapid ablation, removing 1 diopter in as little as 1.3 seconds at 500 Hz. Features such as an intuitive interface and adjustable touch screen enhance surgical efficiency. The MEL 90 is now available in the U.S.
