Acupuncture combined with artificial tears found effective for dry eye syndrome

Posted on

The combination of acupuncture and artificial tears has shown promising and significant effectiveness in treating dry eye syndrome (DES), according to a study.

The systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 randomized or controlled trials, involving 1383 patients with DES, found improvements in key indicators such as tear breakup time, Schirmer I test, and corneal fluorescein staining.

The combined therapy was not only safe but also demonstrated a higher overall efficacy rate compared to the use of artificial tears alone.

These findings suggest that acupuncture, when combined with artificial tears, could be considered a valuable and effective treatment option for individuals suffering from Dry Eye Syndrome.
