American YouTube star MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, paid for cataract removal surgery for 1000 people who were blind or near-blind, according to a video he posted to his account yesterday. All the individuals selected could not afford the surgery on their own.
“They can’t see but we have all the technology to fix it,” Donaldson said in the video. “Nearly half of people with curable blindness don’t have access to this surgery.”
Donaldson reached out to Jeff Levenson, MD, who was able to complete the cataract surgery of 40 patients from the Jacksonville area in a single day. Dr Levenson is a coordinator for the Gift of Sight program, which provides qualified patients with free cataract surgery.
Through Dr Levenson, Donaldson and his team were able to work with SEE International to reach even more patients in need abroad over a 3 week period.
