Conference helps new ophthalmologists prepare for ‘real world’ ophthalmology

Posted on

Seasoned ophthalmologists will provide real-world insight to young ophthalmologists and those in training during an upcoming conference.

The virtual event, Top 10 Things I Wish I Knew Sooner, will highlight what well-established ophthalmologists wish they knew in early practice, ranging from passing boards to negotiating contracts to incorporating emerging therapies.

Real World Ophthalmology Founder Dr Lisa M. Nijm created this educational resource to help young ophthalmologists succeed. The bi-annual virtual meeting serves as a platform to “provide young ophthalmologists with time-sensitive, real-world insight and pearls of wisdom to get a head start in their careers,” according to the event website.

In addition to educational sessions and live Q&As, Real World Ophthalmology will also shine a spotlight on ophthalmologists in training or the first 10 years of practice that have already made outstanding contributions to the field of ophthalmology. Awards will be presented for excellence in patient care, research, humanitarian efforts, mentorship, leadership, teaching, innovation, and professionalism and ethics.

Top 10 Things I Wish I Knew Sooner will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 8:00 AM-5:30 PM CT. Tickets are free to ophthalmologists in training and those in their first 10 years of practice. There is a limited amount of space due to platform limitations so attendees should register in advance.
