Results from a recent study suggested that acupuncture may be effective in improving the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).
In this systematic review, researchers utilized data from 394 patients to investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of using acupuncture for DED compared to other common treatments.
From baseline to the last follow-up acupuncture significantly prolonged the tear breakup time, increased the Schirmer I test score, and reduced the ocular surface disease index (OSDI).
The acupuncture group had a significantly greater Schirmer I test score, significantly longer tear breakup time, and significantly lower OSDI, compared with the control group.
