Early results show viscoelastic delivery device lowers IOP in eyes with POAG undergoing cataract surgery

Significant IOP and medication reductions were noted in eyes with mild to moderate glaucoma after goniotomy performed with Streamline Surgical System (New World Medical), according to early data from an interim analysis presented at ASCRS 2022. According to the presentation, the safety profile was similar to other minimally invasive glaucoma surgical interventions.

In this interim analysis, 21 eyes had a 37.4% reduction in IOP, starting with a washout baseline of 23.9 (±5.4) and reducing to 14.9 (±5.1) mmHg at month 9 (P < 0.001). In addition, medications were reduced at month 9 to 1.1 from 2.1 at screening. At 9 months, most eyes (95.2%) ≥20% reduction from baseline IOP and no increase in medication use. There were no reported adverse events related to the procedure.

Streamline received 510k clearance from the FDA in late 2021.
