Study compares safety and efficacy of 5 MIGS techniques over 6 months
A prospective study presented at the 2025 ASCRS Annual Meeting evaluated the effectiveness and safety of 5 minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques performed alongside cataract surgery: Kahook Dual Blade (KDB), Bent Ab-Interno Needle Goniectomy (BANG), Suture-GATT, iStent, and iStent inject.
Intraocular pressure (IOP) and anti-glaucoma medication (AGM) use were assessed at multiple intervals up to six months postoperatively in 113 patients. All procedures resulted in significant IOP reductions, with the most notable decreases seen in the Suture-GATT (6.41 mmHg) and iStent inject (6.14 mmHg) groups. Suture-GATT also led in medication reduction, followed by KDB and BANG.
In terms of safety, KDB and iStent inject demonstrated the fewest intraoperative complications. The study concluded that all techniques were effective, with iStent inject and Suture-GATT offering the greatest pressure-lowering benefits and KDB and iStent inject showing the best safety profiles
