Case report highlights TED after COVID-19 vaccine in patient with Graves’ Disease history
In this case report, a 50-year-old woman presented with periorbital swelling and proptosis that had lasted for 2 months and began 3 days after receiving her second COVID-19 vaccination. The patient had a history of Graves’ disease without clinical ophthalmopathy.
A diagnosis of active thyroid eye disease was made after orbital imaging and a negative systemic work-up for other diseases, as well as elevated thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin.
“The temporal relationship to her vaccination was likely consistent with autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome associated with adjuvants,” the authors wrote.
They concluded that clinicians should make sure patients are aware of the signs and symptoms of thyroid eye disease.
