Faricimab shows durable outcomes in nAMD and vision gains in PCV
Faricimab continues to demonstrate long-term durability and safety in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and shows strong efficacy in polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), with many patients able to extend treatment intervals significantly while maintaining or improving vision, according to a presentation at the 25th Euretina Congress.
Findings from the AVONELLE-X extension study demonstrated that faricimab maintained vision stability and anatomical improvements in neovascular AMD (nAMD) for up to 4 years. Nearly 80% of patients were able to extend treatment intervals to 3 or 4 months, with a safety profile consistent with earlier trials.
The SALWEEN study provided the first large-scale clinical data in PCV, a common subtype of nAMD in Asia. Patients gained an average of 8.9 letters in visual acuity after 1 year, with over half eligible for extended 5-month dosing. More than 60% experienced complete resolution of polypoidal lesions, and 86% achieved lesion inactivation.
