Study explores retinal findings in pregnant women with COVID-19
Pregnant women with non-severe COVID-19 infection did not show measurable changes in retinal or optic nerve structures compared with uninfected controls, according to a study.
The prospective observational study evaluating ocular microvascular health during pregnancy included 80 pregnant women between 16 and 34 weeks of gestation, including 32 with PCR-confirmed non-severe COVID-19 infection and 48 controls without infection.
Researchers found no statistically significant differences between the COVID-19 and control groups across any ophthalmologic measurements. In addition, the timing of infection during the second or third trimester was not associated with significant structural ocular changes.
