Diquafosol ophthalmic solution effective in soft contact lens-related dry eye

Diquafosol ophthalmic solution (DQS) is effective and safe in patients with soft contact lens (SCL)-related dry eye, according to a study,

In this study, 26 patients with their SCLs in, used DQS in the right eye and artificial tears (AT) in the left eye.

At 8-weeks, corneal and conjunctival staining scores were significantly lower in the DQS eye compared to scores at baseline. No change was observer in the eyes treated with AT.

Both groups experienced significant improvement in most subjective symptoms, but significant improvement in dryness and blurry vision was only observed in the DQS eye group at 8-week examination.

In addition, at the 8-week examination, contrast sensitive in the DQS group had improved significantly at 12 cycles/degree compared to baseline and was significantly better than the AT eye group.

No adverse events related to DQS or AT were reported.
