Visual impairment linked to insulin resistance in older adults without diabetes
A study found that poorer visual acuity was linked to higher insulin resistance in older adults without diabetes.
Researchers analyzed data from 797 participants aged 65 years and older enrolled in the Kyotango Longevity Cohort Study.
Among women without diabetes, poorer visual acuity was significantly correlated with higher insulin resistance after adjusting for covariates (P = 0.0002). Mediation analysis showed that body fat mass and body fat percentage partly explained this association, accounting for 56.7% and 68.5% of the effect, respectively.
