Foundation Fighting Blindness announces updates to program that offers free genetic testing for patients with IRD
The Foundation Fighting Blindness announced its partnership with PreventionGenetics, a part of Exact Sciences, as its new genetic laboratory partner for the My Retina Tracker Genetic Testing Program; InformedDNA remains a genetic counseling partner for the program.
The program seeks to enhance research on inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) and address barriers to genetic testing and counseling for patients with IRDs by offering free testing for patients with IRD who meet certain eligibility criteria. More than 20,000 patients have received no-cost genetic testing as part of the program.
Recent changes to the program, originally launched in 2017, include transitioning the laboratory partner to PreventionGenetics, simplifying ordering procedures, and offering a more targeted gene panel for IRDs.
