Patient Satisfaction with Different Diffractive Multifocal IOLs Evaluated
Patient satisfaction levels were higher with bilateral +3.25 vs +4.00 diffractive multifocal IOLs, according to a study involving 122 individuals. The results were presented by Frank A. Bucci, MD, a cataract surgeon from Wilkes Barre, PA, during the 2018 ARVO meeting in Honolulu.
67 participants received the +3.25 lens. Their satisfaction was compared with 55 patients who had previously received the +4.00 lens. Among the results:
- 82% of +3.25 patients were very satisfied; the remainder were satisfied.
- Improved intermediate vision was responsible for significantly greater satisfaction.
- Mesopic pupil size was still a significant predictor of improved intermediate vision beyond the pinhole effect.
- In the +4.00 group, 64% were very satisfied and 36% satisfied.
- Also in the +4.00 contingent, smaller mesopic pupils and better centration predicted superior intermediate vision.
