Dry AMD, diabetic eye disease most common retinal diseases diagnosed in US
Dry AMD and diabetic eye disease are the most common retinal diseases diagnosed in the United States at retina practices, according to the study.
In this retrospective study, data on a total of 3,086,791 eyes with diagnoses of wet or dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), diabetic retinopathy (DR), branch or central retinal vein occlusion (BRVO; CRVO) from January 2014 to December 2019 across 58 retina practices, were included.
In total, 15.9% of patients had dry AMD, 9.5% had wet AMD, 8.8% had DME, 8.3% had DR without DME, 2.4% had BRVO, and 1.6% had CRVO.
At the retina practices included in this study, these diseases made up 61% of total prevalence and 54.3% of incidence among patients.
